Amateur photographers should know that newborn photography is unique and certainly different from other common forms like wedding or portrait photography. If you are among the new photographers who need assistance in shooting newborns, then here are some newborn photography tips for you.

  1. Keep the baby happy and comfortable

Make sure that the baby feels warm inside the room or shooting location and that he/she has a full stomach during the shoot. Keeping the baby full and happy will make it easier for you to get the photo shoot done.

  1. Shoot fast and in various angles

Shooting fast in various angles can give you a wide variety of photos to choose from. Instead of frequently changing the baby’s position, it is best to take shots in various angles so as to avoid any harm to the newborn since its body is very fragile.

  1. Include siblings or parents

To make your newborn photos look more personalized and memorable to the parents, you can include an older sibling or the mom or dad in some shots.

  1. Use natural light

Taking shots in a room with a big window can help you get the natural light. The natural light from the sun is no doubt the best source of light to use in photography.

  1. Take macro shots

Getting shots of the newborn’s chubby cheeks, cute nose, tiny fingers and other body parts will surely please the parents. They would appreciate seeing how cute and diminutive their baby is.

  1. Make baby’s safety your first priority

The safety of the baby must be your first and utmost priority. You should be able to keep the baby safe all throughout the duration of the shoot. Getting an assistant, requesting the parents to stay nearby and checking your stuff are among the things you can do to keep the baby safe. Avoid also doing poses that you are not unsure of.

  1. Keep the focus on the baby

The main subject in Calgary newborn photography is the newborn baby. Make sure the focus will always be on the newborn. Use a simple backdrop, check the background and remove clutter to ensure that the viewer’s attention will stick on the baby.

  1. Check the props before using

Blankets, props and all accessories that you plan to use for the shoot must be checked well. All stuff must be freshly laundered or free from dust. Babies generally have sensitive skin so you have to use clean, sanitized things to ensure the baby does not get harmed or will not feel uncomfortable.

  1. Master a photo editing program to use for post-production

Learning how to use an image editing program like Photoshop would be an advantage to you. You can enhance your capture images later during post production. Just avoid overdoing it. Only minor editing is often required for such pictures.

Following these newborn photography tips can surely help you produce the pictures you want. Always plan and prepare for a shoot so it will end up successful.

Preparing for your Baby’s First Photo shoot

baby photographyGetting ready for your baby’s very first photo shoot is incredibly fun and exciting. You look forward to seeing your young one looking so cute and innocent in the baby pictures. But yet, you feel a little worried on how your baby will react to it. Is he/she going to be in the mood during the photo shoot? Will your baby cry or not?

Well, there are things you can do to prepare your baby for the photo shoot so it will be a memorable experience for both of you.

  1. Limit the outfit change to 3 or 4.

There are many cute outfits you want your baby to wear but then it is best to limit the number to 3 or 4 costumes only. It will take around 10-20 minutes per outfit change and the number of hours per photo shoot is sometimes limited. Decide well on what clothes or costumes to bring along especially when the baby photo session will be done in a studio.

  1. Bring some props or toys

Most photo studios have cute props or toys that can be used for the shoot or to just simply get the attention of the baby. But of course, it is better if you bring along your baby’s toys because oftentimes they prefer playing with their own stuff. You are also assured that the things you bring are cleaner than the toys you borrow in a studio. Clean or sanitize your props or toys before letting your baby use them.

  1. Ask questions before the shoot

Professional photographers are used to getting plenty of questions from parents so don’t hesitate to ask. They are always ready to answer your queries so you will be more at ease during the shoot. You can ask the photographer if he has an assistant to help him or how many photos he will take, how many outfits should you bring and if he is available for the time you think is best for your baby to be photographed.

  1. Decide who’s going to be in the shoot

Talk to your spouse and decide who among the family members will join in the shoot. If the baby is your first-born, then it is best of course if both of you can come for the shoot. Prepare yourself and make sure you look your best since more often than not, the photographer will call on you join in the picture. These baby photos show an important milestone in his/her life so you would of course want to be part of it.

  1. Feed your baby

A hungry baby is a grumpy baby. Make sure to feed your baby before the shoot so he will be in the mood and will not cry during the shoot. Surrey wedding photographer have seen hungry babies photographed by fellow photographers who are grumpy because they haven’t been fed before the photo session. Thus, this must be avoided.

  1. Choose the best time for the shoot

For newborn babies, the best time to do the photo shoot is when the baby is in deep sleep. While for older babies, they can be photographed asleep or awake. It won’t matter a lot. If the photographer aims for a lifestyle form of photography, then it is best to shoot during the playing hours of the baby. As parent, you surely know when your baby is usually awake or asleep even their sleep schedule is varying so choose the best time for the baby’s photo session.

  1. Make the room warm

If the shoot is going to be in your house, make sure the room is warm so your baby will feel comfortable. If it will be held in the studio, make sure to ask or remind the photographer to make the studio war. Even wedding photographer essex agrees that this is very important

By following these basic tips, your baby’s photo session will surely be successful and memorable.
